The Eiffel Tower will celebrate its 130th birthday this year, having opened to the public on March 31 1889. The famous tower was created by Gustave Eiffel who aspired to celebrate the art of modern engineering, with the structure becoming one of the most recognisable pieces of architecture globally. "In France, the teaching of architecture is inspired by architects from the old school," says Steve, an architecture student.

"We celebrate it as art but also as a vital tool for everyday life situations," he says.

Here are two events you can go to that celebrate the art of architecture:

The London Festival of Architecture: This London-based event is a space where people can openly explore the different forms architecture can take. Unusual materials are used, such as cakes, as a way to build a structure in innovative ways.

A home for all: six experiments in social housing: This event in London’s Victoria and Albert Museum takes an in-depth look into the concerns surrounding social housing design. Fears over being able to provide houses for everyone have faced governments and architects for over a century. With this exhibition, you can see the whole process of six innovative projects of houses created to encourage social change.
